TRAVEL
2nd day in baliOur itinerary included several must-see destinations on the island of Bali. Our first stop was Uluwatu Temple, where visitors are given sarongs to cover their legs before entering. While the monkeys there are cute, be mindful of your belongings as they are known to snatch loose items like sunglasses. Despite this, there is no need to be scared - just exercise caution.
Next up was Kuta Beach, which is easily accessible by parking on the street or in the mall garage behind the beach. This mall also boasts a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants. We opted for a cheap and delicious plate of nasi goreng, enjoying our meal on the beach as we soaked in the sun. Our homestay in Ubud was a welcome retreat, offering a relaxing and authentic experience of Balinese culture. For dinner, I highly recommend Warung Makan Bu Rus - a charming family restaurant in garden with mouth watering local dishes. |
3rd day in baliWe started our day with a delicious Balinese breakfast consisting of fresh coconut and mango pancakes made by our lovely host at our balcony.
We hit the two big must-see's in Bali within a couple of hours driving distance from Ubud. First, the breathtaking Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. Then the famous Jatiluwih Rice Terraces. This is the biggest rice terraces in Bali and the irrigation system is declared Unesco Heritage. Recommendable to rent a buggy car to navigate the fields, instead of walking an risking to get lost in the scorching sun! On the way back we stopped at a coffee plantation to taste Balinese coffee and its varities. Back in Ubud, we visited the gorgeous Lotus Temple and explored the charming streets before buying tickets for tomorrow's Legong Barong and Kecak dance show. For dinner, we enjoyed a lovely meal at Casa Luna - owned by the writer of The Fragrant Rice, a fascinating book about Bali. |
4th day in baliOn the fourth day of our Bali itinerary, we spent the day exploring the charming town of Ubud.
Our first stop was at Goa Gojah Temple, a historic site where visitors can receive blessings from a Hindu priest if they are fortunate enough to encounter one. Next, we headed to Sacred Monkey Forest, where we parked our car and enjoyed a coffee and some Balinese snacks at a kiosk before venturing into the forest. We were delighted to find a small rice field just in front of the kiosk, which provided a lovely view. For an aperitif, we headed to Lotus Cafe with the stunning view of Lotus Temple. We were able to get last-minute tickets to attend a traditional Legong and Barong dance show at the Ubud Palace, which was a highlight of our trip. The colorful costumes and captivating performances made us immerge to the spirit of Bali's rich cultural heritage. For dinner, we chose one of the many cozy restaurants in the town center, which offered a variety of delicious cuisine options. |
